Feel the Beat (Zen Drumming)

Zen Drumming

Zen Drumming is a spiritual arts activity that helps you to attain the ability to concentrate and coordinate the mind and body by focusing on beating the drum. Through the rhythm of drumbeats, you are able to practise being aware of the present moment, which leads to a state of equanimity. It also allows you to freely express yourself and achieve a more balanced life.

About the Instructor: Fu Yiren
Yiren started Taiko Drum training in 1995 under the guidance of Taiko Drum master Jukai Onogawa Sensei, and has bettered himself by attending Taiko Drumming Clinics conducted by renowned masters such as Kazuaki Tomida, Tanaka Gin, and musical group Yamato Wadaiko.

He joined KMSPKS in 2005 where he learnt and implemented the concept of Zen into Taiko Drumming. In the same year, he started KMSPKS Zen Drum Club and has since been teaching the art of Zen Drumming. He further improved himself when he attended the workshop conducted by U-Theatre in 2007.  Since then, he has performed in many concerts and productions including Voices of Harmony, Sound of a Thousand Years (Singapore Indoor Stadium, 2006), OM (Kallang Theatre, 1998), and Damaru – Pulse of Universal Music by Temple of Fine-Arts in India (Victoria Theatre, 2009/10).

Of late, he has turned his attention to groom young Zen Drummers under his wings. He hopes to bring out the potential of these youths and spread the art of Zen Drumming.
